Q: Last week I attended a USTRC event and was told I had won a Regional Finals Shoot-Out position. What does this mean?

A: Winning a Shoot-Out position means you have qualified to rope against a select few other Shoot-Out winners in a special roping. These are the most lucrative ropings in the country and are loaded with added money and prizes. The USTRC office keeps track of all Shoot-Out winners. A Regional Shoot-Out position verification letter will be mailed to you and also all Shoot-Out winners are posted in the SuperLooper Magazine. However, it is your responsibility to enter the roping. The 2009 USTRC rulebook, Section 5, contains detailed information regarding how you can and cannot use your Shoot-Out Position. Click on this link to Section 5 in the rulebook.

Q: I have won a Regional Shoot-Out position. Which Regional Finals should my partner and I enter?

A: You may use the 2009 Regional Shoot-Out position at any one of the seven USTRC Regional Finals events.

Q: I recently won a Regional Shoot-Out position. This is the first such position I have won. My partner, on the other hand, has already won two other Regional Shoot-Out positions in the same division. The win with me makes it the third Regional Shoot-Out position they have won in this division. What can I do?

A: If you are the third partner with which a Regional Shoot-Out position was won, and your partner can only attend one Regional Finals event, thereby preventing you from being able to use the one won with him/her, your partner may forfeit/release their side of the Shoot-Out to you, therefore allowing you to pick up another partner to enter the Regional Shoot-Out in that division. The substitute partner must be a current USTRC member and have participated in a USTRC event during this season. The roper that is forfeiting their side of the Shoot-Out position is required to call the National office and release that Shoot-Out position.

Q: I recently received a letter in the mail informing me that I have won a Regional Shoot-Out position. What do I need to do now?

A: Refer to the SuperLooper Magazine for the information and entry forms for the Regional Finals event you wish to enter. Complete the entry form in its entirety, include all ID#’s and indicate where the shoot-out was won. It is very important that you understand that just because you earned a Shoot-Out position you are not automatically entered. The responsibility to enter the event belongs to you and your partner.

Q: I just received notification my classification increased. My partner and I had won a Regional Finals Shoot-Out position in the #10 division. We now add up to a #11 team, but my partner already has two other Regional Shoot-Out positions in the #11. What can I do?

A: You and your partner may use the Regional Shoot-Out in the #12 division. If you do not feel you are competitive in the #12 division, you may split and each of you may pick a partner and enter the #10 division or higher. An explanation of this situation must accompany your entry form.

Q: I won a #14 generic Regional Shoot-Out position or I received a classification increase and now my partner and I are a #14 team. Which Regional Shoot-Out division do we enter?

A: If the combination of both handicaps does not add up to the number of an existing division, you and your partner may enter the #15 Shoot-Out or split and bring a substitute partner. The substitute partner must be a current USTRC member, and have participated in a USTRC event this season. If you decide to split, you may enter the #13 or the #15 Shoot-Out.

Q: The partner I won my Regional Shoot-Out position with is not going to any Regional Shoot-Out Finals. What can I do?

A: Your partner needs to notify the USTRC National office that he/she is forfeiting/releasing the Shoot-Out position to you. Then you may substitute a partner. The substitute partner must be a current USTRC member and have participated in a USTRC event during the year.

Q: How do I enter a Regional Shoot-Out Finals event?

A: The USTRC Regional Finals events are Pre-enter events. It is important to look in the SuperLooper Magazine for information, deadline dates, entry fees and entry forms for these events. Once you have the proper entry form, it is important to fill out the entry form completely. Include all information, such as where you won the Regional Shoot-Out and all identification numbers.

Q: What are applied earnings?

A: Applied Earnings – Earnings a roper acquires as a result of placing at approved USTRC sanctioned and/or affiliate events provided the earnings did not come as a result of the outright awarding of a Regional or National Finals Shoot-Out position. For more information click here to view the USTRC rulebook.

Q: What is the significance of applied earnings?

A: Every $2000 in applied earnings results in a Regional Finals Shoot-Out position and every $6000 in applied earnings results in a National Finals Shoot-Out position.

Q: How can I find out my amount of applied earnings?

A: To check you applied earnings click here USTRC web site, select member’s services and follow the prompts, or call the National office 254-968-0002.

Q: How do I enter the Regional Shoot-Out Finals or the National Finals event using my applied earnings?

A: You will find entry forms for each Regional Finals event and the National Finals in the SuperLooper Magazine. When using applied earnings to enter a Shoot-Out, please indicate by using the check box provided. The partner you choose must be a current USTRC member and have entered a USTRC Affiliate or Sanctioned event. It is very important to indicate whose applied earnings you are using to eliminate any misunderstandings in the future. When using your applied earnings you need to list your earnings on a separate piece of paper. Once you have used your applied earnings to claim a Regional Shoot-Out the $2000 is subtracted from your total applied earnings. The remaining balance is carried over from year to year.

Q: If I am entered two times in a Regional Shoot-Out division and I win another Shoot-Out position in the Regional Preliminary in that division, how do I use the Shoot-Out position I won in the preliminary?

A: You have a couple of options. You may choose to draw out one of the pre-entered positions, re-instating your Regional Shoot-Out to use at another Regional event and receive a refund. You may forfeit your portion of the Regional Shoot-Out and allow your partner to replace you with a current USTRC member. Your partner’s replacement will be required to pay the entry fee.

Q: I have entered the Regional Finals Shoot-Out using my applied earnings, what do I do if I qualify for a shoot-out position in the preliminary roping?

A: If you are entered in the Shoot-Out division using your applied earnings to qualify and you are awarded a Regional Shoot-Out position in the Preliminary division you may draw out the pre-entered Shoot-Out. Your entry fees will be refunded and your applied earnings will be reinstated.

National Finals of Team Roping Oklahoma City, OK Oct 24-Nov 1 2009

Q: I have entered a Regional Finals #13 preliminary roping and have already won a #13 National Shoot-Out position. If I win two more National Shoot-Out positions in the #13 division during the Regional Finals, what happens to the third National Shoot-Out position?

A: In this rare case, we would allow the partner with whom you won the third National Shoot-Out to substitute another partner for the third #13 National Shoot-Out position. This is also the case, with regards to the third National Shoot-Out position won in the National Finals preliminary roping.

Q: I have entered a Regional Finals event and have already won two National Shoot-Out positions in the #12 division. If I win another National Shoot-Out in the #12 division, what happens to the third National Shoot-Out I won?

A: The third National Shoot-Out is invalid for you. If you enter a Regional Preliminary division, and you have already won two National Shoot-Out positions in that division, you are roping for cash and prizes only. Your partner will earn a National Shoot-Out position and will be allowed to substitute a partner that is a current USTRC member in good standing and has participated in a USTRC event this season.

Q: My partner and I are a #7 team and have won a National Shoot-Out position in the #8 roping. Is there a #7 National Shoot-Out roping?

A: No. There will be a #8 National Shoot-Out at the National Finals that you may enter.

Q: We have earned a National Shoot-Out, are the fees paid?

A: No the fees are not paid. You have earned a guaranteed National Shoot-Out position. The National Finals is a pre-enter ONLY event! Check the SuperLooper Magazine for entry information.

Q: Is the #8 National Finals Shoot-Out capped at a #4?

A: No. The #8 National Finals Shoot-Out is not capped at a #4. A roper classified as a #5 may earn a #8 National Shoot-Out position by winning the #8 Incentive of the #9 Division with a roper rated as a #3.

Q: How many Incentive teams from each preliminary division will advance to their respective National Finals Shoot-Out roping?

A: The top five incentive teams from each division will advance to their respective National Finals Shoot-Out division.

Q: If I enter a National Shoot-Out division using my applied earnings to qualify and I earn a National Shoot-Out position in the Preliminary for that division, what are my options?

A: If you are entered in a National Shoot-Out division including the Gold Plus Shoot-Out, with applied earnings, with the partner whom you qualified for a National Shoot-Out from the Preliminary, you may draw-out the pre-entered position. Thus, your applied earnings are re-instated and the team will receive a refund for that entry. The qualified team from the Preliminary will then move over to the National Shoot-Out of that division with their fees paid.

Q: If my partner has already won two Gold Plus Shoot-Out positions and I only have one and we win another Shoot-Out together, what are my options?

A: You will be allowed to use that Gold Plus Shoot-Out position with another Gold Plus member at the 2009 National Finals of Team Roping.
